The gemstone: Ruby

Ruby is July's birthstone.

In ancient India, ruby was called the “king of precious stones” for its rarity, hardness (second only to diamond), beauty and seemingly mystical powers. Long associated with the life force blood, ruby was a symbol of power and youthful energy in Indian jewelry.

The name is derived from the Latin word ruber, meaning “red” – the color of love and passion. 

 The gem was once thought to protect warriors if worn on their armor or embedded in their skin. Considered the king of gems, the ruby symbolizes love, passion, energy, and success.
